Lesson 1

  • The guitar creates 44 different notes by shortening the 6 strings.
  • Frets are the spaces between the fret wires
  • An open string is any string that is played but not fretted
  • Frequencies get higher as you fret (shorten) the strings on the guitar, or move from a thicker string to a thinner string
  • Alternatively, frequencies get lower as you lengthen the strings or move from a thinner string to a thicker string.
  • Each fret increases the pitch of a string by one 'semi-tone'.
Stay tuned for Lesson 2!
